With an eye on opening in 2022, be one of the first to witness the one and only museum of it’s kind - an Explor-a-Storium - brought to you by The Rabbit hOle. With an immersive dive into children’s literature, come see the inner workings of this wildly creative team and working processes of what will soon be an unimaginable experience for all ages.
The Rabbit hOle’s mission is to bring both your childhood literature memories - and your child’s nighttime story - to life. Unlike any other experience, The Rabbit hOle will provide an immersive environment that will amplify imaginations and showcase stories and scenes from your favorite children’s literature. This collection spans over a century in readings from authors of all styles. A 165,000 SF building with countless exhibits and supporting functions will leave your eyes and mind wandering for more. From ‘Goodnight Moon’ to ‘Harry the Dirty Dog’ you’ll be able to see just how all of these exhibits are made in this behind-the-scenes hardhat tour. The Studio, Fabrication Shop (named ‘RabFab’ for short), and construction of exhibits in the making will be open and explained for your chance to see just how it’s made. A glance into the craft, brain power, and execution at hand is something you won’t want to miss.
Prior to the tours, you’ll have a chance to learn about The Rabbit hOle’s journey from start to today with a beverage in hand. One day soon this will be open to kiddos, but given the working nature of the space - no children allowed (yet). Hardhats will be provided. BYOImaginations!
There will be two tour times that alternate with checking out a special installation and drinks and snacks. Please remember this is an active construction site—attendees are required to wear closed toe shoes and stay with tour group at all times.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any ADA needs. Children under age 18 are not permitted at this event.
This is an in-person event. Attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination, along with proof of identification.
KC Design Week will also be observing all mask mandates from the CDC and in Kansas City, MO, where all of the events will be held.
Additional information regarding general event information and check-in process will be emailed directed to registrants 24 hours before the event.
The Rabbit hOle was founded in 2015 by Pete Cowdin and Debbie Pettid, longtime artists and operators of the Reading Reptile, one of America’s most beloved children’s bookstores for nearly 30 years.
Because of their reputation as innovators and their vast network of relationships throughout the publishing industry, The Rabbit hOle enjoys the support of hundreds of award-winning authors and illustrators from around the country, giving it unprecedented access to the licensed content and properties that will populate its exhibitions. In addition, Cowdin and Pettid bring with them an extensive and fiercely loyal following within Kansas City’s educational community.
