Rethinking Sustainable Furniture

Every year, millions of tons of office furniture end up in landfills—some recyclable, some reusable, and some simply wasted. But what if waste wasn’t the inevitable outcome? What if the future of furniture was designed with circularity in mind—where materials are reused, repurposed, or regenerated rather than discarded? Sustainability in the workplace is no longer just about reducing waste; it’s about designing smarter, creating healthier spaces, and making choices that positively impact both businesses and the planet.

Join us for an engaging panel discussion featuring industry experts who are leading the charge in sustainable furniture design. Panelists Katie Chapman, Senior Sustainability Engineer at Haworth, Dr. Kibibi Springs, VP of Workplace Experience at Hightower, Stephanie Richardson, Senior Sustainability Manager at Humanscale, and Heidi Fraser, Head of Sustainability at Green Standards, will share their insights on the circular economy, sustainable materials, and the long-term value of responsible design. Moderated by Ian Crawford, Project Lead and A&D Representative at encompas, this discussion will explore the tangible impact of sustainability on workplaces, well-being, and the evolving expectations of today’s design industry.

For the Kansas City design community, this conversation is particularly relevant as architects, designers, and business leaders seek to create workspaces that are not only beautiful and functional but also environmentally responsible. Whether you’re specifying products, advising clients, or simply curious about the future of sustainable furniture, this panel will provide actionable insights and a fresh perspective on how our design choices come full circle.
