Rural Revival Field Trip
KC Design Week's 1st field trip!
A designer’s deep dive into a case study community bringing new value to rural life through art and design.
Enjoy an evening outside of the city to the vibrant town of Adrian! The trip will begin with a walking tour of Main Street and lively discussion on how urban planning back in 2007 led to a rural revival of the town. Next will be a stop at The Wine Journal, a wine bar that is an adaptive reuse of the local newspaper building, to experience the value of a well-designed restaurant as a gathering place. A sweet or dry wine flight and charcuterie are included with the visit to The Wine Journal, with the additional option of dinner.
By valuing and understanding the design principles that contributed to the revival and adaptive reuse in Adrian, designers in Kansas City can draw rural inspiration for fostering positive change in their own urban context. This event allows designers to see first hand how connecting the lessons from rural revival to urban design helps build up communities and fosters positive growth.
Space is strictly limited to 14 people. Grab a friend or a carload and join us for this fun outing!
